Communications Manager

Join 1504 as we build an in-house communications team at the intersection of global humanitarian aid and purpose-driven brands. This is a special role: part writer, part strategist, part relationship-builder.

ROLE

  • Writing

    Lead the day-to-day voice across multiple brands, producing clear, narrative-driven communications

  • Strategy

    Steward messaging through voice standards, editorial calendars, and publishing

  • Engagement

    Support stakeholder communications, activations, and partnerships as the ecosystem expands

RESPOnsibilities

Maintain distinct and consistent voice standards for each brand

Serve as copy lead for ongoing writing: newsletters, social platforms, announcements, and internal updates

Write for multiple audiences: Internal, Ambassadors, Public, and Buyers

Coordinate with media relations and keep press kits current

Support events and activations with strategic communications

Assist with sales enablement through retail and partner toolkits, presentations, and ambassador kits

FOCUS Areas

Projects may involve:

  • Ongoing communications for mission-driven organizations focused on humanitarian nutrition (public-facing storytelling, partner updates, internal communications, culture moments)

  • Consumer brand communications supporting launch and growth

  • Early-stage brand development for an emerging global health company

  • Internal culture and employee experience touchpoints

  • Occasional studio projects for 1504's brand and select clients

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional communications experience (agency, in-house, newsroom/editorial, nonprofit, or brand)

  • Excellent writing craft and range, being able to shift voice across brands without flattening them

  • Strong editorial judgment: clarity, accuracy, tone, restraint

  • Comfort running publishing operations: calendars, cadence, approvals

  • Experience working alongside designers and content producers

  • Ability to manage stakeholders and keep projects moving

  • Able to work independently as well as part of collaborative team efforts

  • Full-time, based in Birmingham, Alabama (in-person)

  • Starting at $70,000/year, with flexibility based on experience

  • 40 hours/week

  • Access to 1504 workspace

  • Open to travel as projects require
